Critical Thinking and Media Literacy
Critical Thinking and Media Literacy.
Nowadays, with the rise of the Internet and
social networks, we find ourselves in a world overloaded with information, in
which, to a certain extent, with the democratization of information and
networks most of the inhabitants of this planet (if not all) have the
possibility of accessing, consuming and editing all kinds of information on the
network, which in many cases makes us lose the common thread of a news item or
important fact or even blur the concept of truth about the information that
reaches us.
We know that every image, sound or content we
consume often has a double intention, commercial or political, which aims to
define or shape our way of thinking or consuming. Critical thinking helps us
not to be left with the first impression of what we see and not to let
ourselves be manipulated so easily, to have our own criteria about what we
consume and how we consume it.
In this order of ideas, critical thinking and
media literacy are necessary when handling the information, we consume daily
from our mobile devices or pc. With an open mind, willing and able to
investigate beyond the news fact, with the willingness to corroborate the
sources of information we access and, above all, to question everything that is
presented to us, we take an important step towards a conscious way of consuming
and creating information; we form our own opinion and move towards responsible
consumption.
